Sometimes, good things happen unexpectedly.  That's the case this week, as one day after my brother's wedding (congrats Don and Kim!!) I got a message from my good friends at Edmonton Block Heater.  They had a cancellation for their show at the Railway Club on Tuesday and they were kind enough to ask me to step in!
Picture
To say the least, I was flattered.  Only one problem: my brother's wedding was in Calgary, and because my wife and I celebrated a beautiful one-year wedding anniversary yesterday, I'm still here in Calgary!  So I'm trying to spread the word as much as I can via Facebook, Twitter, and telepathic mind-waves.  All my CFord people, please tell a friend about the Railway show tomorrow night as this is just an awesome, awesome opportunity and I'd love to share it with all y'all.

The Crunch

Now, if you'd believe it, that's not the only opportunity/ulcer-inducing stressor that I've been hit in the nuts with this week.
Picture
I was contacted on Saturday by Brian Thompson over at the DIY Daily/Thorny Bleeder asking to feature my song Steady at the Wheel on his show!  I'll be played during his daily podcast all week, and you can listen to it in the shower with one of these*.  I'm actually a subscriber to his email list and I'm really excited to be featured.

So in summary: WHAT A WEEK.  I'm back in Vancouver tonight for tomorrow's show, and then I fly BACK to Calgary on Thursday for a good buddy's wedding.

...I must be a special kind of crazy.
*not an ad.  I just think that kind of thing is hilarious.

Hey Mr. Ford,

       Loved Ur song, you sound
       like Cat Stevens all over
      again.  Please don't change
      your name like he and
      Prince have, could hurt
      your branding right off.
      <--LOL, but not really.

I heard Ur "Steady at the
       Wheel" song (nice work)
       On Brian's DIY Daily
       Thorny Bleeder..
       Monday's
       Show #409 located here:
       http://is.gd/lQENnr

FYI I just noticed the link
that you have on this page
      (above, and here as well:
       http://www.thediydaily.com/the-diy-daily-podcast/) does
      not contain this morning's
Link to the show U are
      played in.  Maybe with Ur
      Next post (next week) you
could put a link to any show
     Of Brian's from this week
(Or revise the link within
Ur WordPress Dashboard)...like
     the Monday's
     Show Link I have above.

One other thing that I wanted
to mention to you that could
be good for the exposure you
     are no question receiving
     from Brian's placement of
Ur Song "Steady at the Wheel"
     Song on his Podcast this
     entire week (Not to
mention he and Michael's
Music Branding Podcast
on Thurs):

    Consider giving the song away
for this week that the podcast
    Is going on.  Capture email
    Addresses of these fans of
    course...but you really could
receive a big boost in you
Fan base, even if they, like me,
may not be able to see you
"In Concert" or at a show in
     Vancouver (I'm located in San
    Francisco bay personally)
area... they can still buy songs
from you over time, right?
Talk to Brian about this asap
if you could take a moment
     and build this quick feature
Into your site just for this
week.  I know, I know, more
Pain in the hind web build
     tasks thrown your way...but
could be a good longer term
     strategy for Ya even.

"A Song for a Fan," or email
address so you can keep in
     touch with a bigger audience.
     Since Brian's Podcast is
     faily "Evergreen" (Just like
     Your songs are evergreen, I
Did mention you sounding
like Cat Steven's did I
     not? ), consider creating
     a special landing page on
your site & get that page
Location/Link to
Brian asap so he can give
     the link
     (Example:
http://www.c-ford.net/Free-Song )
     Into Brian's DIY Daily
Tuesday's Show possibly!

     You might be amazed &
If you did not mention the
     Link or offer anywhere
Else on Ur site (not that you
would want to do this long
term) for a time,
     the Google Analytics for this
     "Special Offer" & also the
     conversion rate for these
     Fans on this page might
blow you away.

I'm going to mention the idea
with Brian via email, think this
should be a great promotion
program for his weekly artists
section of his Podcast. Talk
To him about the program, he
is skilled enough with his web
building, maybe he might be
interested in building this out
for you on your site for "A
Song" or consulting fee or
something.

Just some thoughts for Ya.

Hope Life's Good.

Take it easy,

Ma

Mark,

Many thanks for listening and for the feedback! I actually think that is a smashing idea that you've got yourself there, and I've decided to make the song free for download FOR EVERYONE this week. Free songs all around!!!!

Cheers and salutes,

CFord

Make sure to let Brian know
the Link location for your
Song give away (in
exchange for e-mail
address "Fan Opt Ins of
course), he's
already produced
Thursday's DIY Daily
Podcast (could have been
The Music WEEKLY, I've
not listened, I just noticed..
Regardless, not much time
left...

I have another idea. Since
Your song is so dang good,
on occasion Mr. Thompson
gets a little over booked with
his very busy content sched..
Ask Brian if he could be lazy
on "The Song Of the Week"
and let your Song lapse for
an additional week, then
you'd get the exposure & be
able to Get Ur song "Steady
at the Wheel" to your fans
Free with the extended
schedule to next week as
well.

Try a special Landing
Page like (one mentioned
above):
http://www.c-ford.net/Free-Song again for instance.

<-- Brian could easily
repeat that link over his
show & put it on his web
Pages for his shows.
Again if you could put
a little special effort and
have a post just to this
experience (Ur story of this
boost to your business
that was a pleasant surprise)
with
"The-DIY-Daily-Podcast"
Use:
http://www.c-ford.net/DIY
and give Brian that link page!
<--
I know you'd blown B.
Thompson away,
he tries to get artists to
take advantage of the traffic
boost, but Musicians (Artists)
are not the best of Internet
Marketers unfortunately.

Glad you liked the idea &
Since Ya got my mailing
address, please feel free to
send me Ur song ( "Steady
at the Wheel" ) my way,
really digging it !¡:-}} Brian
Thompson just mentioned
at the end of his Wed show
that he's getting allot of
positive comments about
your song (end of his
24July13 Podcast, just
before he plays your Song
in its entirety).

He's always available for
an hour of consulting &
then I'm sure he'd have NO
problem slacking on
updating his song of the
week with the cross
marketing "song giveaway"
with his Podcast. Google
really loves the focused
and relevant talk with links,
goes along way...might be
your most viewed web page.
The "Mr. Thompson Consult"
could be $$ well spent.
Sometimes
when opportunity knocks, Ya
gotta open the door WIDE
open.

You might be very tempted
(I would be) to just leave
the free song offer on this
special "DIY" page & track it
for how it's boosted Ur
Email Opt ins...and this is
very Trackable. <-- Ask Brian
How to do this if you decide
to utilize Ur Open Door
moment with him.

Good luck & Peace,

Mark Shark
