News, clips from a radio show, contests, events, and more! This is a big, busy week and I'm going to try my best to condense it down to a five-minute breezeby for you. Sometimes I feel like I'm spoiling you guys. You'd tell me if I was, right? Right, guys? First: It's Thursday! By my count, that's at least one day after Monday, when we released "Steady at the Wheel" to critical acclaim and blubbering tears from the unwashed masses that form the CFord Nation.
So, it being the promised 1(ish) day later, I have now removed "Steady at the Wheel" from its pedestal as a free download and turned it into just another grey, shineless, $0.99 tune over at the Store. Sidebar: someone suggested that I rename the Store the CStored. I'm not sure if I want to move into 'Sounds Like - puns' territory so early in my fledgling career. I have my dignity, after all. Speaking of which... Okay, seriously - before we get started - that's two Monday releases in a row! You *said* you would release these songs every Sunday. SUNDAY. Must you always be late, CFord? Yes, I must always be late. It keeps you hanging on. (Boyfriends of the world, I recommend employing this killer strategy for fostering healthy, meaningful relationships.) It means that when I finally release the song, you're really, really ready for it. It means that I get to enjoy my Sunday nights and lounge about on my Monday mornings. It means another episode of Cougartown before bed.
First things first - thanks to everyone for the response to 'Warrior in Chains.' We ended up with 400+ hits over the last three days, which is just incredible. It's put us into the top 10 ReverbNation Singer/Songwriters in the Vancouver area, and that's all thanks to you guys! Maddest of respects, choicest of props, etc., etc. Contests (and more)...I've been getting some good submissions for the 'Name My EP' contest, but y'all gotta keep those coming so that we can get a good vote through. As a reminder, you can send those to [email protected], post them in the comments below, or post them in the Facebook page.
I've also got another promotion coming down the pipeline that's going to require some audience participation to make work. Here's the premise: Hey there sports fans! We're back with another free CFord download as promised, as well as a sprinkling of news. First... Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Warrior in Chains.
Today's song is a cheerful one, written from the perspective of a guy in prison. He talks about enjoying his walkies and how nice his cellmates are. Or something like that. I didn't really listen to the vocals yet. This is called 'paraphrasing.' You know the rules, kids: the song stays up for free to download for one full day (I usually give you some bonus hours, but don't get sloppy) and then I make sure that all latecomers are given their fair comeuppance by gouging them a full dollar for downloads. We've been getting an awesome response so far, with freebies and cash-ins alike flowing freely like the salmon of the Capastrano*. Okay, first things first: HeadingsI thought I'd start using headings for these blog posts. This is just a new thing that I'm trying. What this means for youAs you read through this blog, you're going to see letters that are larger than other letters.
It's Sunday, folks - you know what that means!!! A new download available, a gig update, and the celebration of a milestone are all here for your pre-Super Bowl enjoyment.
Hey team - thanks to everyone who stopped by to download 'Nothing on Me' and literally steal my hard work out from underneath me! The song is now available for download over on the store page and will set you back $0.99 (ninety-nine cents). At these prices, I sure hope you make an honest living. In other news, we had a really successful show on Tuesday at the Cellar - thanks to everyone who came out and bought CDs!! The next show is lined up for March 8th at Trees Organic (Granville), so hopefully we'll get another good crowd out. I'm actually doing some more recording this Saturday, and I plan to post some pics and maybe even video from that session this weekend. Don't forget to check back in on Sunday night (or more realistically, Monday morning) to snap up the next free download! Hugs and kisses, Your favorite CFord PS. Remember this commercial, anyone? Let me start by saying that I have learned an important lesson about deadlines (you may have noticed that this post squeaked in just before midnight PDT, which means *technically* I delivered it on Sunday as promised). My wife and I celebrated our (belated) 6-month wedding anniversary today by driving out to Abbotsford for mini golf at Castle Fun Park. After all that driving -- and the humbling experience of outscoring (remember, in golf that's a bad thing) the missus by what at one point was double digits and what would've stayed that way had the putt-putt gods not wisely instituted a mercy rule on our scoresheet -- I almost succumbed to sleep instead of delivering the free music I promised you all last Sunday. I guess next time I'll get the hard work done at the start of the weekend. I seem to recall trying to institute a similar policy back in college and it working out for at least a week or two. So, pleasantries aside, it's my pleasure to introduce your ears to the first new CFord track of 2013! I recorded Nothing on Me with Aman Brar in October. We laid the guitars down in only three or four takes, and then I did the vocals all in one go*. I'm very proud of this song and I hope you all love it as much as I do. *this is a bold-face lie. If you have any problems with the above link, try the Music page of my website. It rarely bites, and if you scratch it under its chin it will purr in contentment. Remember, you can download this track for free until Tuesday, then it's gonna be a buck - the whole 'paying for music' thing is a new concept for me, too. I bet some of you more tech-savvy folks will find a way to get this onto Grooveshark and cheat me out of my money. You magnificent scoundrels! Who am I kidding? I can't stay mad at you guys! So enjoy, share with friends, shout it from the rooftops (but please, only at a reasonable hour), and generally get down to the funky beat! Yours in rockitude, CFord
